CD4D participants rarely go on a single assignment, which results in their passports being filled with multiple stamps. That is why we would like you to meet a few of our participants. Since the beginning of our project, CD4D facilitated many assignments aimed at strengthening institutions in Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Afghanistan. Diaspora communities have contributed highly to the success of the project by transferring their knowledge and expertise to selected organizations and colleagues in their home countries.
Ms. Hassan is both Dutch and Somali. She is an experienced human resource manager and worked with various government offices, and currently lives in Hargeisa (Somaliland). She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and Management at Leiden University, which was followed by a Bachelor of Business in European Studies. Later she received a Master of Science diploma for International Relations at Amsterdam University. In Hargeisa, she has been involved with the Ministry of Interior to improve human resources processes.
Mr. Yenesew has Ethiopian roots and obtained his academic degrees in the Netherlands where he worked as a management and business advisor. He was eager to give back to his country of origin and decided to participate in the CD4D project. So far, Samuel completed 3 assignments mainly related to his knowledge and skills. He did not only built capacity at the institutions he worked in, but also pursues his main goal of creating more jobs for the youth in Ethiopia.
Mr. Tadesse obtained his bachelor’s degree in Ethiopia, but soon started his international academic career in Ethiopia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Since he finished his PhD at Wageningen University, he has been working in Agriculture and Geotechnics as a university lecturer, researcher and engineering consultant. During his most recent assignment, he transferred his expertise to the Ethiopian Horticulture & Agriculture Investment Authority (EHAIA)*.
Mr. Kiellow went back to Sierra Leone temporarily to provide guidance in public policy and legal governance to the Civil Service Training College. To do so, he gave lectures, mentored lecturers, and conducted trainings mainly for civil servants.
Mr. Chakanda went on three assignments at the Fourah Bay College and Ministry of Education, Health and Agriculture. During his time at the Geography Department at FBC, he held lectures on creating data collection templates, an information management platform and tools to develop modern GIS technologies.
Mr. Conteh went on 3 assignmnets, of which two were at the Civil Service Training College and one at the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET). At the MMCET, he designed curricula on entrepreneurship, mentored staff and students on preparing business plans, and trained trainers on how to best use the curricula and business plans.
