A motion on engaging diaspora organizations for development and the implementation of policies for the countries of origin has been adopted by the Dutch parliament this week.
Fatumo Farah an inspiring Somali woman and the director of HIRDA (Himilo Relief and Development Association). The organization was founded by Somali diaspora and is now one of the biggest diaspora organizations in the Netherlands. Because of this they are often in contact with IOM Netherlands’ CD4D project which focuses on diaspora engagement.
In 2012, one of our CD4D participants, Mr. Naim Tabesh, won a writing competition on refugees. His story is compelling and raises important questions on issues related to migration.
Debritu Mogese is an Ethiopian entrepreneur and one of the founding fathers of Moyee Coffee. She sometimes works with IOM Netherlands to connect the Ethiopian community with CD4D, thus contributing to the development of her country of origin. She is currently participating on establishing an Ethiopian Foundation, bringing together Ethiopian professionals living in the Netherlands.
