September Update

October 5, 2018

This month we share updates regarding our participants, conference, appreciations and the CD4D team.

Number of assignments

This month, seven of our participants returned to the Netherlands; one from Afghanistan, four from Somalia, and two from Sierra Leone. Three participants started their assignments, of whom two went to Somalia and one to Afghanistan.

Meet the Community: Samuel Yenesew

Samuel Yenesew is keen on tackling youth unemployment in his native Ethiopia. After he gained experience and academic degrees in the business sector in the Netherlands, he was motivated to transfer his knowledge and skills to his country of origin. With the help of the CD4D project, he was able to contribute especially his entrepreneurship skills.

‘Diaspora in Action’ Conference

The programme of the day is nearly finalized and can be viewed here. Read the biographies of our confirmed speakers by clicking on their names. We are looking forward to listening to our key note speakers, debate with the panel speakers and attend the interactive workshops. Details about the workshop contents and registrations will be available shortly.

Monitoring Trip to Sierra Leone

Adri Zagers and Kardelen Akkus conducted a monitoring trip to Sierra Leone, a CD4D target country. They talked to representatives of our host institutions about the project’s progress and challenges. They also attended a 2-day conference named ‘Sierra Leone Diaspora Agribusiness Investor Forum’ and learnt about various investment opportunities.

ADEPT’s mission is to ‘improve and enhance the capacity and impact of the African diaspora organisations that are involved in development activities in Africa’. Those who attended the webinar learnt about the Connecting Diaspora for Development program and future opportunities. The webinar is now available on Youtube and can be watched here.
